At Sprowston Community Academy we are committed to promoting safety and belonging for all of our students, staff and wider stakeholders. We promote the importance of positive social and lesson routines to ensure we have a safe and welcoming school site for everyone.
We pride ourselves on using restorative justice approaches, emotion coaching, a trauma informed approach and Norfolk STEPS when working with students. We understand that behaviour is a communication of need and are committed to supporting all students at the school.
Support the school ethos and safeguarding expectations recognising that we work with vulnerable students
React efficiently to challenging behaviour in school ensuring that school policies, processes and procedures are adhered to
Provide student specific interventions to support academic and social progress
Closely liaise with other school professionals and classroom teachers to support progress
Reduce the level of negative behaviour and promote positive behaviours across the school
Support the wellbeing of students and react to safeguarding concerns in a timely manner
Improve attendance of students and reduce suspensions
Ensure students have the necessary skills to engage effectively in their learning
Provide support for teachers and other support staff to effectively challenge behaviours that puts learning and safety at risk

We are committed to providing a caring and friendly environment for all our students so that they can learn in a safe and secure manner. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at our school. If bullying does occur, students and parents should feel that they can inform us of incidents with the confidence that these will be dealt with promptly and effectively. The Bullying and Discrimination Online Reporting Form is an easy way to alert staff to an incident of bullying or discriminatory behaviour whilst at home or in school. We will respond to your concern as soon as possible.
The Diana Award defines bullying behaviour as repeated, negative behaviour that is intended to make others feel upset, uncomfortable or unsafe.
Discriminatory behaviour is defined as unfair, negative or offensive behaviour towards someone in relation to a protected characteristic (Equality Act, 2010.)
