Instructional Funds (IFs) are provided for students to use throughout the year. The parent and Education Specialist work together to create an engaging annual plan for each child utilizing these funds.
IFs can be used on items such as:
Curriculum (no religious materials)
Field Trips (ordered through Bookmart)
Printer Ink (limit of 2 inkjet cartridges per student per semester with a maximum of 5 per family- whichever is less). The maximum for toner cartridge is 1 toner cartridge per family, per semester.
Paper (limit of 4 reams/student per year)
Activities (tutoring, lessons, classes, etc) through any of our approved vendors. See Vendor Information page of website.
Below find the guidelines for IFs:
Funds are allotted as follows: $1,250 per student + $500 Bookmart Bucks (River and Empire Springs) that can be used for curriculum, online programs, tech tab items, field trips, and learning center classes in Bookmart. The ES and parent should work together to decide how these funds will be used.
Everything ordered does belong to SCS and needs to be returned (unless consumable) upon your resignation from the school and/or at year end if you finished with the item(s).
There is a $400 (total) limit for all consumables that include art/school/office supplies and kits. These purchases must be used within the school year.
Any item purchased using a student’s instructional funds must be documented in the student’s learning plan. Purchased items must be used to support new learning and be documented in the learning record as such.
How to Spend:
Order material, field trips, and learning center classes online at Marketplace/Bookmart and have the material shipped directly to you.
Order anything not found on Bookmart, through an approved vendor by filling out the appropriate Google Form found on the "Ordering Materials and Classes" page of this website.
Consumable vs Non-Consumable Items:
ALL items purchased with instructional funds and the coupon code are considered property of the school, not the property of the family because they are purchased with state funds. Some fall into the category of consumable and some fall into the category of non-consumable. We also have the category of classes.
Consumable items are items that are used up and are not required to be returned to the school. Workbooks of any kind, art supplies, school supplies (including printer ink), CDs/DVDs, educational games and projects are considered consumable.
There is currently no limit to the amount of funds spent on classes/tutors/lessons.
There is no current spending limit to non-consumable items. Non-consumable items include any types of books (picture books, novels), textbooks, teacher guides. Yes, teacher guides are usually non-consumable and are expected to be returned. Non-consumable items show up on your student's inventory and must be turned in when you leave the school. If you lose them or damage them, you will be billed the cost of the item. Your student's records will not be released until you have paid that bill.
Please ask me if you have any questions about what is or is not consumable.
When I purchase things from Bookmart, what funds are used?
You are encouraged to first use the coupon code given to you either at the beginning of the school year or for returning families in May when pre-ordering starts. This will deduct the cost of the item according to how much you have on the coupon code. The coupon code does not cover shipping. Shipping will be deducted from your student's educational funds.
Once the coupon code is used up, the system will pull the money from your student's educational funds. You are not allowed to use your own money to cover anything including shipping on Bookmart. The only exception to this is field trips. Springs never pays for the cost of a parent's field trip ticket. You must purchase your ticket through Bookmart using PayPal. Below is a video to the video that explains to you how to do that. When it comes to the students field trip ticket, you are welcome to use a coupon code, educational funds, or PayPal.
