What We Are Learning?
In music class, students will learn the difference between steady beat and rhythm—two important building blocks of music.
Steady Beat is the constant pulse in music, like the ticking of a clock or your heartbeat. It stays the same, even when the music changes.
Rhythm is the pattern of long and short sounds that match the words or melody of a song.
Through singing, clapping, movement games, and playing instruments, students will practice keeping a steady beat and creating different rhythms. They’ll learn how the two work together to make music interesting, organized, and fun to play. By the end of the unit, students will be able to listen for, move to, and perform both steady beat and rhythm with confidence.

Music Practice Resources for Home
To help students strengthen their music skills, we encourage families to explore these fun, educational YouTube channels together:
Sunrise Kids Music Lessons – Great for practicing steady beat! These videos use songs, movement, and games to help students feel and keep the beat.
Mr. Henry’s Music World – Perfect for learning and practicing rhythm patterns. Mr. Henry makes rhythm fun with clapping, drumming, and interactive activities.
Parents can watch alongside their children, clap or move to the beat, and encourage them to point out rhythms they hear. These shared moments not only support music learning but also make for fun, quality time at home.
