Chess

The Chess Club is an opportunity for the girls at Springfield to learn the basics and strategies of chess as well as to interact with other girls of different grades over the chess board. We do not seek to construct a competitive atmosphere at our meetings and the girls treat every game of chess as a chance of social interaction and practising of chess.

It is a pleasant experience to have chess matches with different girls and to spend break with them. Every game of chess also enhances the strategic thinking of girls and may benefit them in other areas.

Tickets On Sale for Julius Caesar

Tickets went on sale yesterday for the 2020 senior school production of Julius Caesar, which will take place at the Centenary Hall on 15 March at 16:00 and 16 March at 19:00. The tickets cost R70 and are on sale at first break each day on the Avenue, with Snapscan available for ticket payment.

We encourage everyone to get their tickets as soon as possible to see this production of William Shakespeare’s epic tale of glory and treachery as Marcus Brutus and Caius Cassius plot against Julius Caesar, who ignores all warnings to “beware the Ides of March!” You will be supporting the efforts of not only the cast, but also the pupils who have designed the sets and costumes and who will be operating the sound and lighting. We look forward to seeing you there!

Culture Club Outing to The Producers

Next week’s Culture Club trip is to The Producers at Theatre on the Bay. Taking place on 17 March, ticket collection for this show starts at 19:30, with the show beginning at 20:00. Please arrive in time to collect your ticket. Please be collected promptly at 22:30 after the show. In this production, fading Broadway producer Max Bialystok is desperate to get to the top of his profession and finds an unlikely ally in mousy accountant Leo Bloom, who predicts that one could make far more money with a flop of a show than with a hit. Together, the two set out to produce the worst musical ever to hit Broadway. The list of members who have chosen to attend this event is visible on the electronic noticeboards as well as on the school calendar. Any members who are unable to attend for any reason, need to organise to pass their ticket to someone on the waiting list and confirm the change with Mr Fick in writing. dfick@springfieldconvent.co.za
