Further Successes in Grade 12 2019
Fantastic news continues to roll in about the class of 2019.
The Life Sciences department, under the leadership of Mrs Maureen Pollack and with Mrs Suzy Botha and Mrs Annelies de la Mare completing the Life Sciences teaching team, was placed first in the province of the schools with more than 20 learners.
Mrs Nicolette Hughes and Mrs Nomthandazo Ndlebe’s teaching over five years in the Xhosa SAL department saw three pupils placed in the top ten places in that subject, with Jess Holing tying for second place, Jade Acton tying for fourth place and Amy-Leigh Doyle in seventh place.
Congratulations to all!

Grade 10 Orientation Meeting
The Grade 10 parents attended a meeting organised by Mrs Marinda Meder, during which they were provided information about the Elevate Education Study Skills programme that is presented to the Grade 10s and 11s as a part of their Life Skills programme. Brendan Allan’s talk notably related the idea that the key factor that the top students have in common is grit, the quality of sticking to it and delving into a problem until a solution is found. We hope that we encourage such curiosity and tenacity at Springfield! The Grade 10s kick off their programme with the “Study Sensei” module next month, with modules titled “Time Management,” “Ace Your Exams,” and Memory Mnemonics” to follow. Any parents (from any grade) who are interested in Elevate Education’s one-on-one coaching programme, which begins with a free diagnostic assessment, should visit the Elevate Education website to find out more about this course or book an appointment.
Grade 9 Bonango Trading Day
The Grade 9s will experience the annual Bonango Trading Day, an exciting EMS learning adventure on Tuesday, 4 February. Please keep an eye out for communication regarding the purpose and layout of the day.
Social Debating
Social Debating is an excellent way to build critical thinking and public speaking skills, particularly in Grade 8 and 9. Come and learn to argue in a non-threatening environment, through fun debating games and exercises. Wednesday afternoons, 3.15-4.30, in the English prefabricated classroom behind the Science Block. All Senior School girls welcome.
