Woolworths Move For Health - Sunday, 4 November 2019
Each year the Sport Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA) provides a wonderful opportunity for 600 learners and educators from schools in disadvantaged areas to participate in the Woolworths 6km walk/run. The aim of the event is to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle. Part of the event is to make it fun to the pupils participating by painting their faces when they reach the end of the race. Our marimba band awaited participants at the endline and played beautifully to encourage the little runners to complete the last bit of the race. At the end, lunch packets were provided to the children and some of our girls did some face painting for the children. “The event couldn’t have happened at a better time. It was evident that winning the Rugby World Cup instilled national pride as many children wanted South African flags painted on their faces. Overall it was a phenomenal experience face painting and getting to know the children. The smiles on their faces made the morning memorable.”

Toy Run Charity Collections
The Toy Run Charity (Cape Town) is now in its 37th year of operation and has collected and distributed more than 500 000 toys (over 286 000 since 2006 alone) to children in orphanages, homes, places of safety, impoverished and previously disadvantaged communities. The Toy Run is considered an ‘iconic’ City event, and brings together people from all communities, in a common effort to bring happiness and support to the most vulnerable sector of our society.
Primarily, we need funds in order to sustain the operations of the charity, to launch our safety and training for youth initiative, to hold the various toy collection and distribution events during the year, and to host the main toy collection event held in November at Killarney International Raceway.
The Toy Run Cape Town has aligned with the Zanokhanyo Abandoned Children’s Home in Khayelitsha (www.zanokhanyo.org) and the fundraising this year is specifically in support of this home, which recently burnt down through no fault of theirs. We are assisting, in order that they can rebuild and continue to provide this critical service to the abandoned children in their community.
Please consider donating some new or old (not broken please) toys for the drive and place them in the Outreach Box at the entrance of the Afrikaans Block.
