Grade 9 2020 Language and Creative Arts Options
The Grade 8 2019 class is coming to the end of what has been a busy and successful year. We are busy now organising the timetable for 2020. In Grade 9, pupils need to make subject selections in two areas, Languages and Creative Arts.
The pupils were exposed to both French and Xhosa this year and will need to make a choice between the two for Grade 9. Creative Arts in Grade 9 is slightly different from what the girls have experienced in Gr 8. Girls will need to choose a second option. During timetabled Creative Arts lessons, pupils will attend their first option, the subject they are currently taking. Option 2 will be taught in four half-day seminar sessions (one per term).
Please fill in this form below to indicate your choices for Grade 9 2020 before Monday, 11 November. Please understand that classes may be limited in size, but every effort will be made to allocate your choices to you.
Grade 12 Final Exams
The Grade 12s are well into their final exam period and we thank everyone for their support of our pupils over the past couple of weeks. The schedule for the upcoming seven days includes:
Please continue to keep the Grade 12s in your thoughts and prayers this exam session. All are requested to be as quiet as possible when passing the areas around the Music Hall, where the exams are being written.
Grade 8 - 11 Final Exams
The Grade 11 exams commence on Friday, with the Grade 8 -10 pupils starting their final assessments next week. Please be reminded that pupils do not need to attend school on days when they do not write an exam and that a doctor’s certificate is required when a pupil misses any examination because of illness. Further guidelines may be found in the document at this link, while the formal rules for the examination room are to be found here.
The schedule for the Grade 8s and 9s includes some days of practical assessments, including the Grade 8 Technology Day, the Grade 9 Creative Arts Rotation Days and orals in French and Xhosa for both grades. These are reflected on the exam timetable and the same rules regarding medical certificates apply to the assessments completed during these sessions.
Grade 8 Rocky Shores Outing
The Grade 8s went on an outing to St James and Dalebrook Beach in Kalk Bay on Wednesday, 30 October. On the day, they completed tasks related to from the Physical Geography, Social Sciences, Inter-tidal Ecology, and English. They were all fully engaged with the work and had fun exploring the environment around them, making observations, asking questions and most importantly having fun outdoors. The day was not all about work: we held a sandcastle building competition and despite it being a bit chilly, most of them had a dip in the St James tidal pool. The Grade 8s were great ambassadors for the school and a great day was had by all.
Matric Art Exhibition
The annual Grade 12 Visual Arts exhibition took place last Friday in the Fra Angelico Art Centre. On display was an incredible range of artworks, blending traditional disciplines with modern influences and artisanal stylings with the cutting edge approach of our pupils' fourth industrial revolution mindset. Under the guidance of Mrs Cindy Britz, the class - which includes Jade Acton, Petra Apollis, Jenna Blyth, Britney Brown, Georgia Brown, Lailan Daries, Sarah Gibbs, Jamie Hendricks, Jess Holing, Rose Mitchell, Rebecca Powell, Isabella Rangasamy, Ella Reid, Lisa Sonn, Lauren van der Spuy, Leché Welthagen and Torey Wiget-Beattie - all created compelling visual experiences for those who will be strolling through the galleries of the art centre over the next couple of weeks. We thank Mrs Jansen for her words of praise and affirmation for the pupils, each of whom have dared to bare their souls through the transformative medium of their artworks. Congratulations to Mrs Britz and all of our pupils on their beautiful exhibition!
