Rolling on the River invites students into a unique, three-week journey of creativity, collaboration, and performance. During the first two weeks of J-Term, participants will work closely with project leader Peter Borne to write original songs and other musical material. Together, they will refine their work and select a favorite piece to record in week three aboard the Joyful Noise riverboat—home to the world’s only professional recording studio on a riverboat. This rare opportunity allows students to experience both the artistic process and the excitement of recording in a professional setting unlike any other.
The project culminates on Saturday, January 25, with two special listening events held on the Joyful Noise. Half of the student recordings will be featured at 2:00 p.m., and the other half will be shared at 4:00 p.m., offering an authentic showcase of student creativity and growth. Leading the experience is Peter Borne, a professional musician with extensive performance and recording experience, known for his work in diverse musical settings. His expertise and mentorship will guide students in shaping their artistic voices and bringing their music to life in this extraordinary setting.
