Hadestown is a Tony Award–winning musical that reimagines the ancient Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, Hades and Persephone, through the lens of modern American folk, blues, and jazz. With a score by Anaïs Mitchell, the show creates a world where love and art are tested against the forces of industry, greed, and despair. In this production, students will bring to life a story that is both timeless and urgent, exploring questions of hope, resilience, and the cost of following one’s heart. The music and lyrics weave together haunting ballads, rousing ensemble numbers, and soulful laments to create a theatrical experience that resonates far beyond the stage.
Directed with a focus on the emotional and theatrical power of storytelling, Hadestown invites performers and audiences alike to enter a world that is at once mythic and deeply human. The show blends the epic sweep of classical mythology with the intimacy of personal struggle, offering a production that feels at once ancient and contemporary. Audiences can expect a powerful evening of theater that fuses unforgettable music, daring choreography, and moving performances in a celebration of love, loss, and the hope that keeps us moving forward—even when the odds seem impossible.
