Nahal Yitla Bridge
Railway over Be'er Sheba Road
Two single-track railway bridges were built in the Beer-Sheba – Ramat-Hovav freight main line. One bridge crosses the stream of Wadi Beer-Sheba, with 10 spans of app. 25m each. The other crosses Beer-Sheba – Dimona Rd. and is a 4 span Bridge.
The deck consists of 2 pre-fabricated pre-stressed (post-tensioned) C shape girders, having round cross section, placed next to each other, and connected by a C.I.P topping and complementary concrete cast. These are post-tensioned transversly to form a final round-edged U shape cross-section.
The general appearance of the bridge gives the impression of “half a pipe” cross section resting on a series of flared columns, stressing its light and continuous profile.
The bridge pays respect to the aesthetic and historic values of the existing old multiple-arched bridge, located only 15m away. Both bridges blend well in the desert like landscape.
Total cost app.$2,500,000
