Where to Vote

Mail-in voting

  • A local secure ballot drop box location is in the Sparta Township Municipal Building. More are located throughout Sussex County and are listed under the Mail-In Ballot tab. Ballot Boxes will be monitored by security cameras and ballots will be picked up daily by the County Board of Elections. For more locations please see this Link to the Sussex County Clerk's Office.

In-person voting

  • Early in-person voting is available. Those who wish to vote early by paper ballot, but miss the deadline for a mail-in ballot may apply to vote at the County Clerk's Office up until 3 pm the Monday prior to the election. Location: Cochran House Professional Bldg, 83 Spring Street, Suite 304 in Newton. For more information see the section below.

In-person voting on election day

  • Your voting poll number and physical location (district you are a part of) is printed on the front page of the sample ballot you receive approximately one week prior to the elections.

  • District 1- Town Hall, 65 Main Street

  • District 2- Fire Headquarters, 141 Woodport Road

  • Districts 3 & 12- First Presbyterian Church, 32 Main St.

  • Districts 4 & 8- Methodist Church, 71 Sparta Ave.

  • District 5- Shephard of the Hills Lutheran Church, 246 Woodport Road.

  • District 6- Alpine School, 151 Andover Road

  • Districts 7 & 13- VFW- 66 Main Street

  • Districts 9 & 11- Fire Headquarters, 141 Woodport Road

  • Districts 10 & 14- Mohawk Avenue School, 18 Mohawk Ave

When to vote:

  • Regular election day: Nov 8th, 2022

  • Early voting: Between Sat, Oct, 29 thru Sun, Nov. 6 (see below for more info on early voting)



What to bring:

  • If you have voted in New Jersey before, you do not need to provide ID to vote

  • If you are voting for the first time in your county, registered to vote by mail, and didn't provide an ID number or copy of your ID when you registered, you must show your ID to vote. Acceptable forms include:

    • NJ driver's license, with or without a photo

    • Military or other government ID

    • Student ID

    • Employee ID

    • Store membership card

    • US passport

    • Bank statement, car registration, government check or document, rent receipt, sample ballot, utility bill, or any other official document


Early Voting:

  • in-person early voting will take place from Sat., Oct. 29 thru Sun., Nov. 6. Monday thru Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m, and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • There are 3 select early-voting polling sites for Sussex County:

    1. Cochran House Professional Bldg, Newton (parking on Trinity St)

    2. Sussex-Wantage Branch Library, Wantage

    3. Louise Childs Branch Library, Stanhope

  • You can vote early by mail-in ballot as well, for more information on mail-in ballots click here

  • The early voting period ends the Sunday immediately preceding Election Day.
