Each school has an MTSS School Leadership Team. The should is composed of key personnel with the skills and desires to help each child reach his/her full potential.
This team meets regularly to discuss student progress, review data, and make instructional decisions for students at the school. These meetings can focus on individual students, small groups, or larger groups of students depending on the time of year and the team focus.

The Spartanburg District 6 MTSS process is designed to offer students the instructional support they need to be successful. School MTSS teams will meet to determine the best approach to supporting students beyond our Tier 1 classroom instruction.
All students will have access to Tier 1 classroom instruction, however some students may be identified as needing Tier 2 instruction. This means students receive small group instruction based on their specific needs. Their progress is tracked to determine whether or not this instruction is working for them. If students are being served in Tier 2 or Tier 3, a letter should go home with interim reports during first nine weeks. Updated progress should be sent home at the end of each intervention cycle.
At times, students may need more specialized instruction to help them be successful. This means students will move to Tier 3 instruction. This instruction could also be given in a small group or individualized approach. Their progress will also be tracked to determine whether or not this instruction is working for them. If students are being served in Tier 2 or Tier 3, a letter should go home with interim reports during first nine weeks. Updated progress should be sent home at the end of each intervention cycle.
When the MTSS Team is considering referring a child for a full evaluation, a referral packet must be submitted to the Special Services department at the District Office. Per current guidelines, intervention data will be used as part of the evaluation process and part of the consideration for Special Education Services.
