Debra is a very dedicated lecturer who goes out of her way to help the students under her care. In AV 18/19, Debra had a particularly difficult PTN class- while the class was academically strong, they were highly competitive and the dynamics were quite negative. Debra used many points in her lessons as teachable moments to counsel the class as a whole on the importance of working together despite their differences.
She also dealt with many issues faced by individual students from meeting up with counsellors and parents, to arranging with other lecturers for a student to have an extension on her CAs into the holidays. Debra has an excellent rapport with her students and they never hesitate to go to her for advice. I feel that she is very deserving of the EiCG award.
Diana is a very hands on tutor that goes beyond the call of duty. She doesn't just teach as a profession, but goes beyond the role to educate, mentor and groom students as if they were her own children. Time and time again, she has gone out of the way to ensure that students are cared for, mentored and receive an education that will benefit them, not just as working professional, but as a young adult in society. Her motivations have always been out of the abundance of care from her heart for her students, and many of her deeds are done quietly without drawing attention to herself or her actions. However, to the students she has touched, it has made a big difference to them."
Student Feedback:
"During our time with her as our personal tutor, Mdm Wee was one who would bring the class together, allowing the rest of us to strengthen friendship ties amongst us. One example was when during the first ECG2 lesson, she spotted our new classmate who is lonely with a low self-esteem, and have the rest of us welcome him into the lesson as friends. With her friendly and caring attitude, together with her strong patience and professionalism, we were assured to have a motherly figure by our side.
Naturally, she was approachable too, and would facilitate communication networks with us to ensure none of us were left behind. Critically, whenever we are in doubt of our work, she never once back down from giving us very straightforward answers. In conclusion, while life goes on with each passing year, I can personally never forget about her inspiring contributions to my lifelong learning journey. "
