- Exclusion from school may be affected by temporary or full suspension.
- A. "Temporary Suspension" shall mean exclusion from school for an offense for a period of up to three school days, after an informal hearing before the principal is offered to the student and the student's parents/guardians.
- B. "Full Suspension" shall mean exclusion from school for an offense for a period of up to ten school days, after an informal hearing before the principal is offered to the student and the student's parents/guardians.
2. Exclusion from school may be affected by expulsion.
- A. "Expulsion" shall mean exclusion from school for an offense for a period exceeding ten school days, and may be permanent expulsion from the school roll.
3. Some examples for which students may be excluded from school are (list is not inclusive):
- A. Fighting, profanity, truancy, cutting classes, possession or use of drugs or alcohol, defacing or damaging school property, defiance, disrespectful behavior, or any form of repetitive misconduct
Students suspended from school shall not be permitted to participate in school activities during the period of suspension. Therefore, students will not be allowed on school grounds and not be allowed to attend any school activity for the duration of the exclusion, as addressed in the District’s Rules and Regulations handbook.
4. Conditions for Expulsion Hearing:
Three suspensions during a school year may result in a referral to the Board of Education, with expulsion as a possibility.
- A. Expulsion proceedings will follow due process, including notification of charges, representation by counsel, and a right to an impartial tribunal as defined in Board Policy.
