Cell Phones

The school recognizes the benefits of students carrying cell phones on their person. However, in the educational setting, they easily can become a distraction to the educational process. It is recommended that cell phones remain at home during school hours. However, if it is necessary for a student to carry a cell phone, the power must remain off during scheduled class time. Classroom teachers may give explicit permission to use personal devices for educational purposes at their own discretion. A student who has a cell phone out during scheduled class time without expressed permission will have that cell phone confiscated and may be held for parent pick-up. Repeat offenses may result in additional disciplinary action. If a student refuses to turn over his or her cell phone upon request, he or she will face additional disciplinary action for insubordination.

Students may use their cell phones during passing periods and scheduled lunch periods.

If a student is sick, the student must report to the school nurse where the parent/guardian will be notified of their child’s condition. The student should not notify parent for pick up via cellphone. The school nurse will make the determination to contact parent/guardian.

Live video feeds, video, audio, and picture-taking are all prohibited activities with personal devices at all times involving school. Violations may result in disciplinary action.
