Dress Code

Students are expected to take pride in their physical appearance and in selecting clothing. When students come to school inappropriately dressed, the faculty and administration will take steps to correct the situation. Parents will be informed and asked to cooperate. Any form of dress or hair which is considered contrary to good hygiene or which is distracting in appearance and detrimental to the purpose or conduct of the school will not be permitted. The following guidelines shall apply to the school building, extra-curricular activities, and school-sponsored trips:

  1. Students are responsible for keeping themselves, their hair, and their clothing clean.
  2. All shirts, dresses, blouses, and tops must have sleeves.
  3. All pants, trousers, slacks, shorts, skirts, and bottoms must be worn at the waist.
  4. Students are not permitted to wear extremely brief garments such as tank tops, tube tops, net tops, halter-tops, spaghetti straps, and plunging necklines (front and back). Backs, midsections, and undergarments must be covered at all times, and cut off shirts are prohibited. See-through garments and clothes that are tight-fitting are also prohibited. Leggings may only be worn if another garment adequately covers the torso area of the body.
  5. Any clothing displaying profanity, obscenity, violence, and/or gang references will not be permitted. Likewise, any clothing that ridicules any person/group and/or references alcohol, tobacco, or other illegal activity will not be permitted.
  6. Shorts (and skirts) of acceptable length shall be permitted. Bike pants, and lycra shorts are not permitted. Acceptable length would be defined using the finger tip rule. The short length must be at or extend past the student’s fully extended finger tips when the student’s arms rest at his/her side.
  7. Pajama tops and/or bottoms are not permitted.
  8. Students must wear shoes at all times. Footwear that is a safety hazard (such as slippers) is not allowed.
  9. Hats, caps, bandanas, sweatbands, and/or hoods are not to be worn in the building.
  10. Disguising or hiding your appearance is prohibited. This includes face and body painting.
  11. Sunglasses or non-prescription glasses may not be worn in the building.
  12. Students may be required to wear certain types of clothing in certain educational environments like gym, industrial arts, extra-curricular activities, or other situations where certain attire is necessary for the health and safety of the student.

Students acting inconsistently with the above regulations will be directed to correct the situation, will receive further consequences, or will be sent home through contacting parents/guardians. Appropriate student dress decisions lie with the administration.
