Math Time!
Unsure how to incorporate math activities at home? No need to worry, there are many simple ways to make sure your child can practice math.
Counting with everyday objects
Here are a few examples of how you can use everyday objects to support number sense at home. These ideas are easily modifiable to meet the needs of your child. For students learning numbers match the numbers with 1:1 corrolation (number 5 and five objects). For students ready to determine more or less and addition/subtraction these ideas will also work.

Counting Feijoas: Number counting
Math is probably one of the easiest topics to incorportate into your day. Take a moment and think about how many times a day you yourself use math.......it's a lot isn't it? Our students use math too they just aren't aware of it. When at home and your child wants to get a snack and you say take one. They need to know what 1 is in order to take just one.
When your child wants something encourage them to also get one for their sibling or you. Or when having a snack (chips) you can say "I have 3 chips, you have 4 chips". When setting the table for dinner have the child count the right number of forks for everyone.
Be creative and remember to have fun!
Hungrey Caterpillar Numbers
Number sequencing is an import skill for our students as it is an indication that they understand numbers are not just rote counting from memory. What better way to practice numbers but with our favorite Hungrey Caterpillar character! For students looking for a challenge they could try adding the bottom numbers so that they equal the top number. (example: 4+6=10)
