The primary goal of the World Language Program is to provide students with the skills to communicate in at least one language other than English, and increase their understanding of other cultures. Students will expand their knowledge of other disciplines through their study of language and culture, as well as participate in multilingual communities. A multimedia approach is used in the acquisition, demonstration, and assessment of World Language skills.
The State of Connecticut requires students to take one full-year world language course beginning with the graduating class of 2023. Students who successfully complete a full-year Spanish or French course will earn one high school credit. In addition to the graduation requirement, students are encouraged to continue taking language classes, as many universities recommend that students complete at least two years of the same language. (Three years are strongly recommended.)
