Prerequisites:  Prior instrumental instruction and teacher recommendation.  Audition process required.  Size of the group based on instrumental needs and balance.

Description:  Students study and perform music of different styles including Pop, Classical, Broadway, and Modern. Students will participate in a band ensemble and express themselves musically in a variety of different settings, including marching band. The intention of the course is to encourage the growth of every individual student in a team environment. The band meets on a daily basis and performs several concerts/parades throughout the year.

Description:  Students study and perform music of a wide variety of genres. Students will learn about healthy singing, musical form and style with varying degrees of voicing and difficulty. The intention of the course is to encourage the growth of every individual student in a team environment. The chorus meets on a daily basis and performs in several concerts throughout the year.

Description: Percussion Ensemble is a performance-based class offering students the chance to learn and play various percussion instruments. While previous enrollment in a band is helpful, it's not required, and beginners are welcomed. The course aims to foster individual growth within a team environment. Meeting daily for one semester, the Percussion Ensemble rehearses and performs a diverse range of percussion chamber ensemble literature. The course culminates in several concerts and parades throughout the semester, providing valuable performance opportunities for students.

Description:  This course includes the study of basic notation, harmonic theory, ear training, transposition and composition. It will enhance a student’s knowledge and appreciation for music through the study of how music is created. The course is required for students intending to pursue music as a career.

Description:  ‘Music in Society’ is a class that will present and study music as both the mirror of, and catalyst for social events throughout history.  A wide variety of topics will be explored, chosen from suggestions made by class members.  Materials used will be taken from current periodic literature, Internet sources and selections from texts, which address the issues selected for discussion.  Students will research topics, write short opinion papers, debate/discuss issues, and listen to a wide variety of music in class and for homework.  Projects will involve presenting and analyzing works of individual choosing.  (NO music with parental advisory labels will be permitted).

Description:  Students in Honors Chorus perform above and beyond the requirements of Chorus (157).  In addition to the performance opportunities and academic assignments in Chorus (157), the students in the Honors Chorus independently develop areas of performance, academics, and extending learning activities to participate in based on their personal strengths and interests.  This is a great course for students who are passionate about singing and learning about music.

Description:  Students in Honors Choir perform above and beyond the requirements of Chorus (157). In addition to the performance opportunities and academic assignments in Chorus (157), the students in the Honors Choir have additional performance opportunities and independently develop areas of performance, academics, and extending learning activities to participate in based on their personal strengths and interests. This is a great course for students who are looking to be musically challenged and who are passionate about performing.

Description:  Students in Honors Band perform above and beyond the requirements of Band (156).  In addition to the performance opportunities and academic assignments in Band (156), the students in the Honors Band independently develop areas of performance, academics and extended learning activities to participate in based on their personal strengths and interests. This is a great course for students who are looking to be musically challenged and are passionate about playing an instrument.
