The health education program is designed as a two-year program that will provide students with the information necessary to make important decisions concerning their young adult lives. Students will master vital health skills such as analyzing influences, accessing information, communication skills, decision making, goal setting, self-management, and advocacy. Throughout each skills unit, students will gain knowledge and understanding of essential health concepts. The topics include alcohol, nicotine and other drugs, healthy relationships, violence prevention, healthy eating and physical activity, sexual health/family life, optimal wellness and disease prevention, mental and emotional health, and safety and injury prevention (first aid/cpr/aed training).
Students will graduate with 1 credit of Health by taking 1 Semester of Health and Wellness in 11th grade and 1 semester of Health and Wellness in 12th grade. The students must pass Health and Wellness to graduate from Somers High School.
In the physical education program, each student will develop fitness, coordination, basic motor movement skills, sport skills, knowledge of the rules and basic strategy of each sport/activity, and acceptable social behavior. Passing grades in two Physical Education courses are required for graduation, which includes Physical Education in Grades 9 and 10. Physical Education II is offered in the 11th and 12th grades as an elective.

Description: Successful completion of one credit in P.E.
Students vote on units they participated in previously and then play tournaments. Among the units covered are basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, and hockey. (Course demands a high amount of student participation.)

Description: Students must choose either 502 or 506 in grades 9-10.
Primary emphasis will be on fitness development through lifetime sports/activities. Students will participate in a variety of activities such as walking for fitness, yard games, yoga, bowling, tennis, pickleball, weight lifting, golf, and disc golf.
