“Magnetism is the force of attraction or repulsion of a magnetic material due to the arrangement of its atoms, particularly its electron.”
There are natural as well as artificial magnets. Magnets come in different shapes. Below are some of the shapes.
Discovery of magnets:
Magnetism was first discovered, according to Greek mythology, by a shepherd called Megnes, who lived in Megnesia, Greece. Megnes was out in the mountains, herding his cattle. He suddenly realized his stick's ferrule and the nails on his sandals had become stuck to a rock. The magnetic rock had attracted the iron in his stick and nails. The stone was given the name magnetite after the shepherd who discovered it or the country where it was discovered. Because of its appealing properties, it was also known as a loadstone. One of the three naturally occurring iron oxides is magnetite. It is magnetically attracted and can be quickly magnetized to create a permanent magnet. Loadstone is a term for naturally magnetized bits of magnetite.
