Enhance the overall tourism experience in Oni Municipality by focusing on comprehensive infrastructure development that handles tourism-related demands and improving accessibility to create a resilient and well-connected destination that provides a seamless and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Strategies will be directed at developing sustainable transportation options for visitors, enhancing transportation links, and ensuring connectivity.
4.1.1 Transportation Link Enhancements: Improve transportation links between key tourism sites and attractions within the municipality by upgrading roads, bridges, parking facilities, and signage, making it easier for visitors to navigate and access different parts of Oni. Continuous improvement includes road maintenance, information distribution and signage, capacity building, and training of transportation service providers in customer service and other topics.
4.1.2 Connectivity Improvement Projects: Invest in infrastructure projects to enhance connectivity between Oni Municipality and neighboring towns or regions, including the development of new highways or bus routes to facilitate seamless access to the destination.
4.1.3 Tourism Shuttle and Route: This branded shuttle route could be used in peak season to take tourists to all the best sight-seeing locations and would improve accessibility and ease of transport.
4.1.4 Transportation Rentals: Offer non-motorized or small motorized transportation rentals, such as bicycles, e-bikes, golf carts or ATVs, etc. Implement eco-friendly transportation options such as electric bicycles or electric scooters for visitors to explore the municipality in a sustainable manner, reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental conservation.
Upgrade accommodation facilities, maintain recreational and cultural venues, and enhance overall infrastructure to efficiently handle the demands of tourism.
4.2.1 Enhance the Visitor Information Center: Provide comprehensive and up-to-date information about local attractions, events, services, tour packages and reservations. Expand visitor facilities such as information centers, rest areas, and public restrooms to accommodate the growing number of tourists and enhance their overall comfort and convenience during their visit to Oni Municipality.
4.2.2 Construct Public Toilets: Build public facilities in the central areas or major points of interest; these facilities can be fee-based and self-sustaining.
4.2.3 Construct or Designate a Winter Activities Facility: To house trail grooming equipment, etc.
4.2.4 "Old Holiday House" PPP: Investment for the historically accurate restoration of the resort’s landmark building can contribute to luxury and historical spring experience offerings. This is an excellent opportunity for a Public-Private Partnership and Community-Based Tourism Enterprise.
4.2.5 Recreational Spaces Program: Implement regular maintenance and upkeep programs for recreational venues such as parks, hiking trails, and outdoor recreational areas, ensuring that they remain safe, clean, and well-maintained for visitors to enjoy. For corporate meetings, team building, children’s summer camps, festivals and conference events, invest in a public facility or area used to foster community well-being and growth. This may increase the potential to host more regional and national events.
4.2.6 Infrastructure and Utilities Improvements: Undertake infrastructure improvement projects such as road repairs, lighting upgrades, and signage installations to enhance the overall accessibility and safety of tourism-related infrastructure, providing a seamless and enjoyable experience for visitors. Utilities and resources such as water supply, natural gas, waste management, and public transportation remain a challenge and priority for the quality of life for residents as well.
4.2.7 Accommodation Facility Upgrades: Invest in renovations and upgrades for existing accommodation facilities, including hotels, guesthouses, and lodges, to improve comfort, aesthetics, and overall guest experience, ensuring that they meet the evolving expectations of modern travelers.
4.2.8 Camping Equipment Rentals: Purchase camping equipment that the Tourism Cluster can rent out to tourists, creating a service to intrepid visitors, as well as a new revenue stream for the Cluster.
A key focus will be on ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all visitors, including those with disabilities.
4.3.1 Accessibility Audit: Conduct regular accessibility audits of tourism facilities, attractions, and infrastructure to identify barriers and areas for improvement, ensuring that all visitors, including those with disabilities, can easily access and enjoy the destination.
4.3.2 Accessibility Improvements Plan: Implement necessary upgrades and modifications to improve accessibility, such as installing wheelchair ramps, handrails, accessible parking spaces, and tactile paving, in compliance with accessibility standards and regulations.
4.3.3 Sensitivity Training: Provide training for tourism industry staff on cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and unconscious bias to ensure that all visitors feel respected and valued during their interactions with local businesses and attractions.
4.3.4 Inclusive Marketing Campaigns and Information Resources: Develop and provide accessible information resources, including braille signage, audio guides, and large-print materials, to assist visitors in navigating the destination and accessing relevant information about attractions and services. Develop marketing materials and campaigns that celebrate diversity and inclusivity, featuring a diverse range of people from different ethnicities, religions, ages, genders, and abilities to promote the destination as welcoming and accessible to all visitors.
4.3.5 Accessible Transportation Services: Ensure that transportation services are accessible to all visitors, including individuals with disabilities, by providing wheelchair-accessible vehicles, designated parking spaces, and accessible transportation routes.
