Catholic Preachers

These are a few Catholic priests who are particularly good preachers and have free homilies, talks, missions, etc online. For each one listed, there are links to just a couple of their homilies or talks – more of their homilies or talks can be found online. This is also just a sample of good Catholic preachers available online. A number of other good ones can likely be found, although the ones given here are perhaps amongst the best ones.

Bishop Fulton J Sheen

Bishop Sheen was born and raised near Peoria, IL in 1895 and died in 1979. He is one of the greatest preachers and teachers of the faith in our times and perhaps the greatest ever produced here in our own country. In the mid 1900’s, he had a television show (Life is Worth Living) that was one of the most watched shows of its time. His show rivaled even the very popular Milton Berle; no one wanted to be on opposite Milton Berle, but Bishop Sheen was and his ratings were among the highest. He had tremendous insights into modern times and he was even sometimes rather prophetic in this regard. In regard to insights into the modern world, he could probably be put in same the category as Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI. His cause for canonization is open. Every Catholic, especially American Catholics, should be familiar with Bishop Sheen. In 1979, shortly before his death, Bishop Sheen met Pope St. John Paul II who said to him: you have been a loyal son of the Church. Better praise from a better source would be hard to come by.

Father Bill Casey of the Fathers of Mercy

Fr Bill Casey is a fiery, enthusiastic preacher. He seems to have a particular appeal to men.

Fr John Hollowell

Fr Hollowell is a parish priest. He is mild-mannered, somewhat soft-spoken, but strong in the faith.

  • The first link is a profound statement made by Fr Hollowell. I encourage everyone to watch it.

  • The second is one of his online homilies.

Fr Vince Lampert

Fr Vince Lampert is a priest for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. He serves as pastor in his Archdiocese but he also serves as the exorcist for that diocese. He speaks in a very even-keel and objective way on this topic (free of drama) and even more importantly he teaches the fullness of the faith, not just one segment. In fact, the reason this first video is included – where Fr Lampert is speaking to a group of college students – is because he says that he has come here tonight not so that you might be fascinated with evil but that you become fascinated by the power of God. His focus is first and foremost on God, not the devil or evil. To further illustrate this, Fr Lampert has also complained (jokingly, but yet meaning it at the same time) that when he gives a presentation on God, 20 people show up, but when he gives a presentation on the devil, 200 people show up. All of this is to say that Fr Lampert is listed here because he places this topic in its proper perspective. He teaches the faith in its fullness, including the gravity of evil.
