Catholic News

One essential ‘pillar’ for Catholics is a real engagement of the faith with their mind – to really think about it, to think about the life of our Lord, His teachings, His Passion, Death, and Resurrection, and so on. But it’s not easy to just jump in and get started. A simple way to start getting more interested in the Church, eternal life, what God has revealed, and so on is simply reading “Catholic news.” “The News” is something most adults pay some attention to anyhow and so good Catholic news sites can be one easy way to begin to engage more in the faith. Catholic news sites will report some secular (non-Church) news but generally their focus is more on news within the Church. Most Catholic news sites will also provide commentary on various subjects related to the faith, which is a further step towards study or contemplation of the faith.

There are a number of sites available. To help people get started, these are some that tend to be pretty reliable and faithful to the Church.

This site not only has reliable Catholic news and commentary but also many excellent resources. A few examples are:

  • Fr John Hardon’s “Modern Catholic Dictionary” – an excellent and reliable dictionary of terms related to the faith; it’s under the “Resources” tab.

  • The Catechism of the Catholic Church

  • Writings of the Church Fathers – an invaluable and extensive resource

  • Some free online eBooks

Dr. Jeff Mirus writes commentary for this website. He may be one of the best Catholic commentators of our time – objective, faithful, and logical. Phil Lawler, a Catholic journalist, also provides some excellent Catholic commentary on this site.
