Work Permit Procedures

NEED A WORK PERMIT?

Follow these steps:

Please note, there are two steps that must be completed in order for your work permit to be processed:


Step #1: Once you've been hired and accepted a position, please print out this work permit application https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/dlseformB1-1.pdfYou can pick up a hard copy in the Future Center as well. Fill it out completely and get it signed by your supervisor and a parent/guardian. 


Step #2: Complete the Work Permit Request Google Form

(Students must be logged in using their SMUSD email)

Please read the form carefully and enter your accurate information. 

(Make sure to upload the permit application, from step 1 to the Google form above) 

* IF THE INFORMATION YOU ENTER ON THIS FORM DOES NOT MATCH THE IMAGE OF YOUR UPLOADED APPLICATION, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE DENIED *


Step #3: Your work permit will be emailed to the email you provide on the Google form. (Students, please make sure your SMUSD email ends in @smusd.org.)

Please allow 2-3 business days for an email. If you need a work permit rushed, please visit the Future Center on campus. Once you receive the email, review it to be sure the information is correct, print it, sign it and give it to your employer.




***Students granted work permits shall be required to demonstrate and maintain a 2.0 grade point average and satisfactory school attendance. 


WORK RESTRICTIONS BY AGE:

16 and 17-year-olds:

4 hours per day Monday-Thursday, 8 hours per day Friday through Sunday, with a maximum of 48 hours per week. Spread of hours - 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

14 and 15-year-olds:

3 hours per day Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day Saturday and Sunday, with a maximum of 18 hours per week. Spread of hours - 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

12 and 13-year-olds:

May be employed only during school holidays and vacations. Employment is restricted to certain household occupations, messengers, delivery, and agriculture.
