This course engages students in activities that not only build knowledge and skills in areas including computer science, 3D modeling, engineering, and biomedical science, but also empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and perseverance. Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the course to design solutions to authentic real-world problems. Course cost is $10.00.
This Project Lead the Way course provides project-based learning using a hands-on approach that relates technology to students’ daily lives. Projects may include building working models of various mechanisms, designing and building a pull toy that incorporates mechanisms, and completing a variety of coding exercises. Additional areas of study will include energy and the environment, alternative power, and renewable energy resources. Course cost is $10.00
This class is for students who like to use their hands and minds to build and create things; it challenges them to apply their creativity and technical ability. Students will learn how to safely use a variety of hand and power tools such as several types of hand saws, power drill, band saw, miter saw, belt sander, and drill press. Class projects may include wood turning, boxes, CO2 cars, tee hop game, and cell phone sound amplifier box. Safety, individualized work, and problem solving will be emphasized. Course cost is $15.00. Extra projects may be completed at an additional cost.
