Art club is a place to explore new art processes and techniques that are not always covered in class. It also has an "open studio" component for students who need a place to create their personal art. In the spring we work on props for the musical.
The IHMS Athletic Leadership Council aims to develop individual leadership abilities by focusing on personal growth and inspiring those around us. Students will apply these leadership skills both in their sports and throughout the school community. Our overarching vision is to foster greater school pride and increase student involvement. Students will strive to motivate peers to embrace leadership roles and actively participate in the IHMS community.
The Battle of the Books team meets twice a month to tackle the current William Allen White nominee book list. After prepping and reading, the team heads to the district-wide competition to see which school can remember the most about these books.
Battle of the Brains is a competition put on every other fall by Burns & McDonnell. Students work to create a new exhibit at Science City that is creative, inventive, informative, and original!
Board Game Club is a fun time to come together with friends, relax, and enjoy playing all kinds of board games. It’s a chance to learn new games, practice strategy, and share some laughs while building connections with others.

Explore flavors from around the world! Learn to make five new dishes from different countries while gaining hands-on culinary skills.
Jazz Band is open to 7th and 8th graders that play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or a rhythm section instrument (Piano, guitar, bass, drum set). We work on learning many different styles of music from swing, funk, rock, salsa, samba, shuffle, and cha-cha. Students perform for the school during assemblies, go out on elementary tours, and perform at the SM East Jazz Night.
Junior Board introduces students to the business of philanthropy through hands-on experiences and opportunities to meet the people committing their lives for the betterment of our community. Students learn what it takes to financially and physically feed, clothe, educate, and provide for those in need and learn first-hand from the clients receiving these vital services.

Auditions are in November, rehearsals kick off in January, and the big show dazzles in May. Join 130–150 students as cast or crew and be part of our 25+ year tradition of amazing, show-stopping performances!

Selected students explore and create professional learning experiences focused on instructional strategies. In April, they present their work to the IHMS staff during professional learning, sharing their ideas and insights.
Sources of Strength members work to empower a well world. Utilizing a strength-based and upstream approach to mental health promotion, students create campaigns to share and highlight the many strengths each student possesses to lean upon during tough times.

This club aims to bring the Women in Leadership club to the middle level. This will give young women the opportunity to learn leadership skills before entering high school.
This club will bring the SMSD YES! program to middle school. YES! is a district-wide initiative to empower students to help create a more equitable culture, and to provide meaningful collaboration with teachers and administrators in creating positive change to school culture.
