Zoom is Smith’s primary enterprise audio and video conferencing solution, as well as the platform used for telecom services. You can use the Zoom app on your computer to host and attend video conference meetings and make and receive phone calls.
Open the Zoom app* on your desktop or mobile device. The Zoom app should already be installed on Smith-assigned computers. You can also download the app on a personal device. The mobile app is available through the App Store or Google Play Store.
Select Sign in or go to the Home tab.
Select SSO (the key icon) at the bottom left.
If you previously signed in another way (e.g., signed in with Google, indicated by the Google logo next to your email address), you might need to first select Sign into a different account to see the SSO option.
If prompted, enter smith as the company domain name and select Continue. A browser window will open. If necessary, follow the prompts for Duo and to launch the application.
Smith employees: When you log in to your Smith-assigned computer, the Zoom app will launch automatically, and may take a few minutes to start. If you were signed in to Zoom when you logged out or restarted your computer, you will usually be signed in when Zoom launches. Occasionally, you may have to sign in again.
*Can't find the desktop app? Check out the Zoom article, Starting the Zoom Workplace desktop app.
If you don't see the key icon, you may need to select Sign into a different account:
As with any software or application, it’s important to keep your desktop and mobile Zoom app up-to-date to avoid disruptions in service or security.
The ITS team updates Zoom on Smith-assigned computers automatically via weekly managed patching. There is no need to manually update your Zoom application on a Smith computer.
Open the Zoom app on your computer.
Select the gear icon in the top right corner under your initials/profile picture to open your settings menu.
Under General, check the box for Automatically keep Zoom desktop client up to date. A drop-down menu will appear after you check this box. Leave the Update Channel set to Slow for the best experience.
Open the Zoom app on your computer.
Select your profile picture/initials to display your account settings menu.
Select Check for Updates at the bottom of your account settings menu.
You will either get a screen that says You are up to date, or a screen that says Update Available. If you are up to date, select Done. If there is an update available, select Update.
Select Install. Follow the prompts on your computer to install the update.
Our enterprise license allows students, faculty, and staff to schedule and host Zoom meetings without the 40-minute restriction of the free version. See Zoom Meetings for more information.
With Zoom Phone, Smith faculty and staff can make and receive phone calls on their Smith-assigned computer or mobile device using the Zoom application (the same one used for meetings).
Important: If you plan to use the Zoom app on your computer for phone calls, we recommend staying signed in. When you log in to your Smith-assigned computer, the Zoom app will launch automatically, and may take a few minutes to start. If you were signed in to Zoom when you logged out or restarted your computer, you will usually be signed in when Zoom launches. Occasionally, you may have to sign in again. To ensure you don't miss calls, we recommend checking your Zoom status at start up.
