Rhythm is a principle of design that suggests movement or action. Rhythm is usually achieved through repetition of lines, shapes, colors, and more. It creates a visual tempo in artworks and provides a path for the viewer's eye to follow.
Repetition can also unify an entire series of artworks, like a group of paintings. A certain shape, object or texture that is repeated among a group of paintings acts as a motif, helping each painting to feel as though it is part of a greater whole.
ASSIGNMENT: Find images of similar letters, numbers or objects and create a collage like the examples shown. If you have magazines at home you can cut or tear out images. If you have a printer you can print out and images and then cut them out the glue them down. If you don't have magazines available, you can draw the different objects, letters, and numbers. Think of groups of similar things like fruit, bugs, leaves, cars, letters, eyes, etc.
If you have access to a computer or some type of photo editing app on your phone, you can also complete the assignment that way. BeFunky is a great online source for creating collages.
