Intermediate students will choose their music course for the 2026-2027 school year. 3rd-grade students will choose either String Orchestra or General Music. 4th and 5th-grade students will choose between Band, String Orchestra, or General Music.

*4th and 5th grade students who wish to participate in Chorus will meet once a week as a pull-out class. Chorus is an additional offering that students will sign up for in August.

Parents/guardians are expected to provide an instrument for their child. In the event a parent/guardian cannot provide an instrument, SMCPS instruments will be distributed in the most appropriate manner possible, taking into account the school, program size, and student need. A Google Form to assess instrument needs will be sent home at the start of the school year. If you have any questions before then, please email Dr. Alvey (strings) or Mrs. Romano (band).

Please take time with your child to look through this site to help you choose a music course and an instrument if you select band or strings.

October 2026 - All-County Honors Chorus for nominated 5th grade chorus members

Strings Students - Call 5:30 p.m., Performance 6:00 p.m.

February 2027 - All County Honors Orchestra and All County Honors Band for nominated 5th grade strings and band members
March 12-13, 2027 - DUKE MUSICAL: Finding Nemo KIDS
April 2027 - All County Honors Jazz Band for nominated 5th grade band members
May 2027 - Elementary Solo & Ensemble Festival optional participation for strings and band members

Concert Performance Attire
Students must have a white dress shirt and black skirt or pants.
Black, close-toed dress shoes must be worn.
If pants are worn, students should wear black socks with their shoes. If a skirt is worn, students should have neutral colored hose.
Hair must be pulled back from the students face.
Jewelry (optional): Earrings may be worn if they are studs, and they may wear a single necklace.
