Inspired by Micheal Thompsett
During their topic, Life in London, year 2 explored the work of modern artist, Micheal Tompsett, who is famous for create colourful city skylines using watercolours.
First, used their sketchbooks to practise continuous line drawings, focusing on the shapes of famous London Landmarks.
Next, they explored how to mix, blend and drip water colour paint in his style before the two in our finished piece.
AFRICAN SUNSETS
During their Amazing Africa topic, year 2 explored the colours they could see in images of the sun setting over the African savannahs. They thought about the shapes of the silhouettes and how they could create their own 'African Sunset'.
Children practised mixing paint to create different shades of red, orange and yellow.
Next they blended those colours together, experimenting with which they liked best.
Finally, applied their skills to create a sunset background before adding in silhouettes of famous African animals and trees.
