During our topic, Life in London, we explored the work of Micheal Tompsett, a modern artist famous for his use of watercolour paint to create colourful city skylines.
We used our sketchbooks to practise continuous line drawings, focusing on the shapes of famous London Landmarks. Next we explored how to mix, blend and drip water colour paint in his style before the two in our finished piece.
African Art
During our Amazing Africa topic, we explored the colours found in African artwork before focusing on the colours that could be seen in an African shiloutte. Next we practised blending those colours together, experiemeting with which we liked best. We then used our blending skills to create a sunset background before adding in silhouettes of famous African animals.
We began our topic by learning all about the life of Van Gogh and his journey as an artist.
We then explored the use of colour ourseleves, creating colour wheels and a range of shades using paints. We also experimented with line in different ways to create texture and shape. Finally, we drew and painted our own version of Van Gogh's Sunflowers with the help of local artist, Denis Holder who brought in and shared a range of his own incredible Van Gogh inspired artwork.
