Becoming A Panther!
The registration process differs whether you are from a SMCDSB school or from another board.
SMCDSB Students
Feeder Schools or Students who have previously attended a SMCDSB School in the past
Students currently in Grade 8 who attend a Catholic school in SMCDSB and are transferring to a Catholic high school in the SMCDSB will visited by St. Peter's Guidance Counsellors. You will receive a package with your option sheet as well as a document confirming your registration information. Once you have discussed your courses with your parent and completed your option sheet, counsellors will return and we will be able to enter your Gr. 9 courses.
What to expect as a Panther
Wearing a School Uniform
At St. Peter's, we wear our uniform with pride. Families are required to purchase only from our approved uniform provider, McCarthy Uniforms. There are various options available from our provider that will suit all seasons.
Location and order information coming soon!
A Locker
All students are provided with lockers when they enter grade 9 and this will be their 'locker for life'! Lockers will be chosen on grade 9 orientation day.
A Link Leader
Link Leaders start the school year by helping introduce our incoming Gr. 9's to St. Peter's. Our Link Leaders are current Gr. 11 and 12 students who volunteer their time to participate in leadership training during May and at the end of August. These leaders have all experienced being helped by the Link Crew program and want to give back! We look forward to meeting you all and working with you in September 2023!
Link Leaders Maddy, Ashley, Madison, Lauryn and Emily share a welcome message to all of you!

Your Timetable - A Semester
SEMESTER
We are hopeful that Sept. 2022 will have a Semester system. In this system students have 4 classes per day for 75 minute periods and follows the regular schedule listed above. The following example below is a sample of a Semester 2 (S2) schedule for a student in Gr. 9
How to Read a Course Code
You will note on your option sheet that there are some courses that have a 2O i.e. ATC2O!
These are Gr. 10 classes that many Gr. 9's take :)
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) Requirements
You haven't even joined us yet and we're presenting what you need to graduate....
All students MUST take 1 Art and 1 Phys Ed credit. These credits do not have to be taken in Gr. 9, however we encourage them to be completed by the end of Grade 10.
Picking your Courses / Option Sheets
In Gr. 9, students have the option to choose ONE elective. We ask students to rank 3 options when filling out the Option Sheet.
Students in SMCDSB schools will receive their Option sheet in their Gr. 8 Class. Students in non SMCDSB school will receive their option sheet once the registration package has been submitted
Options Sheets will be returned to your Gr. 8 teacher. You will be visted by your Elementary Guidance Counsellors to enter them into Xello in February.
OSSLT - Students will have opportunities to practice and experience the OSSLT test before it is written.
40 Hours of Community Service
Gr. 8 students are eligible to start earning Community Service hours immediately after their Gr. 8 Graduation. The Public Libraries sometimes have opportunities as well as the links below. The form to track hours is linked on the right. Students are encouraged to submit this form as soon as hours are completed and signed off. Not all lines need to be completed before it can be submitted!
Students are also encouraged to submit ALL hours. Don't stop at 40! Upon graduation there are awards for students with top hours!
Volunteer Opportunities are posted on the School App as they are received! Stay tuned to the app for updates!
