QUINTUPLE DEUCE: Seniors snare a stirring victory
10 September, 2025 | By Gianina Paguio
From a seemingly triumph in the cards, the Grade 10 Seniors were given a run for their spot to advance in the next round of the Intramurals 2025 High School Volleyball Girls in a thrilling 15-13, 19-18 match, yesterday afternoon.
The crowd went wild as Sophomore Charmaine De Leon twisted the match that once stood 12-5, to a two-point difference, 14-12, until the deuce that bound the blue court for an unknowingly emotional roller coaster ride.
Hungry coaches Nicole Santos and Almira Evangelista were out to push their own teams hard, up from their seats, both anxiously in clamor.
“Bato Bato Pik na lang,” a repeated statement heard from Coach Evangelista from the sidelines.
The initial frame was nothing less than a “sure win” for the Seniors, with service ace Therese Agustin carrying the set to a sweet 15-13.
Until the set 2 shocker driven by De Leon, allowing the Sophomores that seemed to not stand a chance, to trim the deficit in a swift.
In every deuce, the Seniors took the first point away, but could never finish what they started, giving hope to the 8th graders as the match continued to stretch.
After a committee decision to end the match in a final one-point decider, a service error from their opponent showered the Seniors with relief and joy as they took away the victory that set them a step closer to championships.
Just before this dramatic win, Grade 11 and Grade 12 students went up against each other, and Captain Ball Sofia Javier stirred the Year-12 team to a victory to face the Grade 9 Juniors that won over the Sophomores in an earlier match.
11th Graders Carla Tiña and Llana Fabian showed skillful efforts in service, but the opponents were just too far up to catch on and change the course of the match.
