11 September, 2025 | By Raia De Leon, Ryana Abalos
Filled with high spirits and enthusiasm, yesterday marked the beginning of a new journey for the Badminton players of St. Mary's College of Baliuag, Inc. (SMCB) in the school auditorium. The competition brought together contenders from Grade 4 to college level, showcasing talent across all ages.
While the games are ongoing, scores are capped at 10 due to the large number of participants. Only the elementary girls’ category has been completed, while the elementary boys began their games but were unable to finish. The JHS, SHS, and college brackets will start on the second day, same as the elementary boys.
For the elementary girls' doubles championships, Athena Grace Igaya and Jayla Pascual of Grade 5 and Cerina Jewel Maniego and Gail Athlia of Grade 4 started with an intense rally. Between the two, Igaya and Pascual bagged the 1st place.
In the elementary boys bracket, a Grade 6 student caught the attention of other participants with his performance. Michael Sebastian Villarama, striking smashes with no hesitation, won two of his games.
At the end of day one, the grade school categories were nearly completed, paving the way for the high school students to shine. Anticipation builds to how the JHS, SHS, and college brackets will rise to the challenge and showcase their skills on the second day. The excitement continues as everyone looks forward to more thrilling and inspiring performances ahead.
