MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Beermen (SMB), behind the remarkable performance of frontman June Mar Fajardo, took all the Barangay Ginebra could offer before hacking out a 107-82 win in Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.
Eight-time MVP Fajardo, despite a risky calf injury, powered 12 points, 19 rebounds, and 3 assists to equalize the best-of-seven series at 2-2 on Wednesday at jam-packed Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen turned up the intensity in the second half, motivated by the urgency to avoid a 3-1 deficit.
Dangling by a point at halftime, the Beermen came out firing in the third quarter and fought back from a shaky start with a 12-7 run led by Juami Tiongson and Rodney Brondial to gain momentum, pulling ahead 71-58.
SMB ceased the Tin King’s attempt to rally after establishing a formidable defense, snatching the spark of the game.
PBA best player Scottie Thompson, who reigned in Game 3, struggled after ending the night with 11 points and was left speechless in the second half of the game.
San Miguel Beer looks to seize a 3-2 lead as the series continues with Game 5 on Friday.
