Hundreds of protesters marched along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), starting from the EDSA Shrine in Ortigas to the People Power Monument in Quezon City, in opposition and protest against the alleged corruption in the government’s flood control projects on Saturday.
Some of the groups that joined the protests were Bayan NCR, Anakbayan, Kabataan, and Panday Sining, among others.
Once all the participating groups were gathered at the EDSA Shrine at 9:30 A.M, the protesters marched towards the People Power Monument, reaching it at around 10 A.M, where they began their programs.
According to them, unfinished and substandard flood control projects waste money while communities are still vulnerable to flooding.
Alongside this, they urged the government to allocate the budget towards finding an actual solution, as well as investigating anomalies and punishing those involved with corruption.
The size of the crowd was estimated to be around 300 people, due to which a sizable contingent of police officers was deployed to ensure security around the People Power Monument.
The rally ended at around noon, with the police contingent deployed saying that it was “generally peaceful,” with no untoward incidents occurring.
