"Batons Up!"

As the launching of the new school year occurred on the grounds of St. Mary's College of Baliuag, all eyes suddenly turned to the stars of the campus—the majorettes.
On the first day of school, the majorettes, dressed in their beaming blue outfits, stepped onto the field gracefully and full of style. Their confidence broke through the morning stillness, as their dance choreography outshined the rays above.
Mother Majorette Sophia Vielle Cruz from Grade 11-St. Augustine of Hippo shared that the majorettes underwent a week of training and practice to prepare their special performance for the first day.
“Being able to perform surely benefits one’s confidence, as the loud cheers from the crowd lift our mood and enable us to enjoy the performance more than feeling nervous,” she said.
As Sophia mentioned, her routine is to recall everything before their performance, hoping that she wouldn't accidentally drop her baton. Their instructor, Ms. Edilyn Bucar, jokingly told the majorettes that it was alright to drop everything else—except their batons.
Another performer, Joana May Legaspi from Grade 11-St. Benedict shared what happened behind the scenes.
She said, "To get to the conclusion we had made on the day of the performance, we had to go through many trials, attend practices, and most importantly, ask for God's guidance. It was hard at first, but with enough training and determination, we were able to pull it off."
Despite the nervousness our majorettes had felt before and at the start of the performance, they said that after some time their excitement took over—and everything went smoothly from there.
Finally, Joana added, "Overall, I think the audience enjoyed it as much as we did, and that's what matters! It was also a fun experience for me, since I had the chance to form great friendships and create meaningful memories despite the tiring moments. I don't think it could have gone better than that."—to which we say, "Batons up!"
