Colors of Melody
31 October, 2025 | By Emilia De Jesus
In a world that often feels too loud and overwhelming, music and art offer a gentle silence our hearts seem to crave.
When words fail and emotions feel too heavy to carry, a song, a splash of color can speak for us—whether it is a melody from your favorite song or the quiet rhythm of a pencil sketching on paper as you watch the design slowly unfold.
As human beings constantly dealing with deadlines, exams, projects, work, and numerous other responsibilities, finding a tranquil moment can be quite challenging. However, like many others, I too have found refuge in music and art.
Music and art are commonly described as the ‘expressions of the soul’ because they have the power to evoke deep emotions that go beyond the limits of words. Personally, I enjoy listening to music since it always reduces my stress and uplifts my spirit. Music became a companion for many people, as it constantly communicates in a way that builds a connection among individuals, reminding them that they are not alone. It comforts us when we are broken and celebrates us when we are whole.
A single song can hold thousands of memories for different people—nostalgia, hope, love, sadness, disappointment—all at once.
Art, on the other hand, provides people a safe space to release emotions through pictures. Painting, drawing, or even something as simple as doodling allows artists and people to express what they are feeling inside. When words fail, colors speak. With each stroke of a pen or a brush, it becomes a reflection of the artist’s inner world. Joy, hope, sadness, anger, or even just a fragment of a memory, all taking shape in a single canvas.
In art, there are no mistakes, only expressions. For others, art is not just a hobby. It is also a form of therapy that brings them emotional relief and self-understanding. Some people draw or paint to understand their own feelings, and some to forget them. But they both provide peace for the artist.
A kind of healing that doesn’t demand perfection, and only honesty.
Both music and art show us that healing and respite take many different forms. They can emerge in the soft tune and melody of a song playing in your ear or in the gentle movement of your hand as it glides across a canvas. They show that beauty can come from anything and that our hobbies provide us with a much-needed escape from the stresses of everyday life.
Creativity is not just for the talented; it is also for the tired, the hurting, the hopeful, and those who simply want to express themselves. The healing power of music and art does not lie in the colors or the lyrics of a song, but in the way they foster connection and bring people closer together through shared emotions and experiences. These forms of expression create bonds among people, reminding us that we are never alone in what we feel.
In silence, there is always a song. In a heavy heart in need of expression, there is art. Through both, there is always hope and peace—where a tired or broken heart can find tranquility and solace.
This brings me back to the song my grandmother used to listen to on the radio, “I Remember the Boy” by Joey Albert. The lyrics say, “I remember the boy, but I don’t remember the feelings anymore.” The opposite is true for art and music—you may forget the situation that led you to create a song or an artwork, but it will always evoke the same forgotten feelings brought about by the memory of that creation.
