Layout Artist
The Layout Department brings articles and information to life by creating a visual output. An artist builds brands and credibility with the elements and information included in it. It is the primary reason why audiences are hooked by the news or information because of how it is presented.
Designing is not just combining elements, but also knowing the right way to approach how a simple output should look while still keeping The Marynette image within.
In assuming this role, you must be equipped with:
Adaptability in style—some outputs are required to be minimalist depending on its purpose, but it does not mean to limit the artist to be able to explore styles in creating a layout.
Knowledge in typography—typeface and text should stand out, but not in a way that seems like it is not part of the output.
Unique perspective—each design must be able to express and deliver the right message and story of the article.
Effective color usage—ability to apply appropriate and cohesive color combinations in layout elements and text
Understanding of layout composition—ability to apply proper proximity of elements within a layout.
Attention to detail—ability to ensure accuracy of layout content, including dates, titles, author names, images, and other elements.
Professionalism—an artist must be respectful, especially in communicating with other staff.
Cooperativeness—the Layout Department shall work in unity and must be ready to be assigned tasks, including unplanned assignments due to schedule conflicts.
Time management—ensure proper submission times or deadlines that are set by the Authors, the Layout Chief, and the Executive Board.
Applicants may also be required to submit:
A portfolio of your outputs and designs.
A list of Application or Tools that you master in creating an output, such as Canva and Ibis Paint.
