Primary 1 Transition Update - 12/08/26

We are very much looking forward to having our new Primary 1 children join our St. Mark's FAMILY.  The arrangements for the next few days are as follows:

Thursday 12/08

All new Primary 1 children should arrive at the school's main entrance for 9.15am for a prompt 9.30am start.  We ask that no more than 2 parent/carers accompany their child due to space restrictions.  

Your child will then go to class with their class teacher.  We ask all parent/carers to wait in the hall until the Primary 1 children are settled in class.  You will then be invited in small groups to visit your child in class for a picture at their desk.  We ask that you quickly take the picture and leave. The 'kiss and go' rule is always best - especially for children who may find the transition emotional.  I  appreciate that the first day at school can be emotional for you too, however, I ask that you present as calm and as 'full of smiles' as possible.  This will help ease any anxieties your child may have.   I recommend that any first day tears are held back until you have left the classroom.  This will help reassure your child as you leave the classroom.

The school day will finish at 2.30pm.  All Primary 1 parent/carers should collect their child in the infant playground via the playground gate (nearest the bus drop off zone).  Only one parent/carer should be in the playground please. As we have a large Primary 1 intake, please ensure you spread along the playground and not stand directly at the gate.  Primary 1a and 1b will be dismissed from the doors nearest the gate, meanwhile P1/2 will be dismissed at the classroom door nearest the nursery garden.  Each child's name will be called and will be dismissed directly to a parent/carer.  Thank you for your patience whilst we ensure every child is dismissed safely.

Friday 13/08

From Friday onwards, your child will start school at 9am.  Children are expected to be dropped off at the playground gate where their buddy, our Senior Leadership Team and Support Staff will be waiting to help.  

The school day will finish at 3pm and dismissal will be in the infant playground (same arrangements as above).

For those who require breakfast club, our breakfast club starts at 8.15am and children should be dropped off at the senior playground gate (at the top of the car park as you enter the school).  A member of our Support Staff will be on hand to accompany your child into the dining hall.  In the event, our staff are already accompanying a child and there is no one at the gate, we ask you wait for a staff member until leaving your child.  No child should be left unaccompanied without an adult.

Update - 18/8/2025

St. Mark's Hoodies.

Please note that St. Mark's hoodies are not part of our school uniform. It has come to my attention that they are available to order from Blossoms, East Kilbride. This has never been authorised by the school and, therefore, please do not order them. Our main uniform supplier is ScotCrest in Hamilton. Hoodies are only for Primary 7 which they receive as part of the Leavers' programme.

Update - 16/7/2025

Return to School - August 2025

Primary 2-7 children will return to school at 9am on Thursday 14th August 2025. Children should line up outside their new classes at this time. As always, parents are not permitted into the playground and must drop children off at the school gates. As this will be a busy time, please be mindful of the car park when entering and exiting. The safety of our children is paramount and I thank you for your cooperation. Please exit the car park as quickly as possible to ensure our Primary 1 entrants arrive at the school safely.

Primary 1 children must be brought to the Assembly Hall by their parents/ carers from 9am for a 9:15am start. Children will be dismissed at 2:30pm on the first day only. Thereafter, the normal school day will be 9am-3pm and children will enter and exit via their classrooms. Parents/ carers may enter the playground in the morning for the first week only and from Monday 18th August should be dropped at the school gate. Support Staff will be on hand to supervise and support Primary 1 children to their lines. Only Primary 1 parents will be allowed to enter the playground at the end of the school day to ensure their child is collected by their known adult.

Nursery children will continue to enter and exit via the nursery door next to the school office. Please note that the nursery day is 9am-3pm. Please minimise disruption to the nursery by ensuring your child is on time every day.

Our uniform policy can be accessed by clicking on the tab at the top of the website. A reminder that black is not a St. Mark's uniform colour. Thank your for your cooperation.
