Stigma Free Lanarkshire is a council wide initiative aimed at reducing the stigma attached to mental health related illnesses.
St Andrew’s and St Bride’s High School signed our pledge to formalise the extensive work carried out to support our young people to have open and honest conversations about mental health.
As a result, we were highlighted in a recent case study for excellence in practice.
Over 20 staff participated in a training event to achieve Mental Health First Aider status within our school. These fully trained staff help to provide essential support as first responders. They provide support to pupils and staff alike.
Senior students have also been introduced to some of these techniques, raising their awareness of mental health concerns and signs of distress in younger pupils.
During Anti-bullying week in November, younger students experience anti-bullying presentations, workshops and curricular inserts.
Pupils are encouraged to reflect on their unique and God given talents and the importance that each and every one of them have to play in this world. They are taught to celebrate differences and treat others with respect and dignity.
