Clicking the images below will take you to YouTube for more information to help you complete your log book (an example of the log book is given at the end of this section).
Using a faulty tool, machine or power tool can be dangerous, and if you continue to use it while it's not working correctly, you can either cause further damage to the piece of equipment, or you could cause yourself or others an injury. With that in mind, it is important that you get into the habit of checking that all pieces of equipment are in good working order before and after use.
The personal protective equipment (PPE) that you are required to wear will depend on what machine you are using and the task you are undertaking. Safey signs to show the PPE requirements for each machine will be displayed beside that particular machine. Examples of the various PPE available and the safety signs are shown.
EYE PROTECTION MUST BE WORN
Special care should be taken to protect your eyes while operating machinery. The three main types of eye protection available are safety spectacles, safety goggles and the full face visor. Safety spectacles are suitable for the majority of eye protection needs ytou will be faced with while in the workshop. The wrap-around frames and impact-resistance safety lenses will provide adequate protection from medium-to-high impact flying objects.
WEAR A FACE MASK
Wood dust can be inhaled and cause respiratory problems. With that in mind, whenever you are using a fixed machine or a portal power tool that creates wood dust, the dust extraction system attached to that machine should be activated. When no dust extraction system is in place, a dust protection mask should be used.
SAFETY GLOVES MUST BE WORN
There are a large variety of protective gloves available and care should be taken to select the correct type of glove for the task that is being carried out.
PROTECTIVE APRON MUST BE WORN
