The Skaneateles Theater Department believes in producing high-quality live performances that provide the opportunity for students to experience all facets of the collaborative nature of theater. Through main stage shows and coursework, students hone their skills in singing, acting and movement as well as technical theater.

The middle school Drama Club meets 1 day per week in the Fall and late Spring. Members work on theatre games, monologues, scene work/partner work, and audition technique. Some of the methods of acting that we focus on are Meisner, Stanislavski, and Stella Adler.
The middle school drama club also produces a main stage musical in late March. This production rehearses every day after school (3-5) and includes 3 Saturday rehearsals leading up to the performance weekend. Students have the opportunity to perform in the show or to learn about tech theatre (stage managing, running a lighting or sound board, spotlight, stage crew and projections).
Some years, the 8th grader members use the late Spring drama club sessions to direct a short drama (with teacher supervision.) When a formal production is not possible, students play theatre games and work on scenes/monologues.
The high school Drama Club produces two main stage productions and one student-directed event every year. In all productions, students have the opportunity to work in all facets of live performance. Upperclassmen have the opportunity to take on leadership roles such as lighting designer, sound designer, stage manager and production manager.
The fall production is typically a small-cast play or musical. Recent shows include Puffs, Clue, Into the Woods and The Play That Goes Wrong.
The spring production is a large-cast musical. Recent shows include Anastasia, The Little Mermaid, Mean Girls and Chicago.
The final production of the year focuses on student direction and design. This alternates between the 24-hour musical project (recent shows include Frozen KIDS and High School Musical Jr.) and a Theater Performance Class showcase.
