Think of the IAAP as declaring a mini-major in music during high school
The Individual Arts Assessment Pathway is a graduation pathway offering where students demonstrate musicianship through a collection of creative works that meet the appropriate high school performance indicators and the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts. The methods students use to meet the state developed IAAP criteria are based on student interests and goals in consultation with their music teachers. Students pursuing a Regents Diploma or a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation may utilize their pathway as an assessment.
IAAP offers high school students a graduation pathway that prepares them for future professional and educational experiences for opportunities in the arts. IAAP increases student engagement with the arts and is a vital step in realizing the goal of music literacy, enumerated in the NYS Statewide Strategic Plan for the Arts. Current research demonstrates that engagement with the arts leads to growth in cognitive skills such as self- efficacy, empathy, and social engagement that are necessary for all areas of work and life.
