The Skaneateles Choral program begins in 5th grade and continues through high school. The choral program strives to enhance musicianship through singing. This allows every young singer to study and learn about many various styles of music as well as about their own voice. We do this through sight-reading, performance, and artistic expression during rehearsals and concerts.
For a comprehensive list of ensembles and curricular opportunities provided through the Skaneateles music program, visit our Classes and Ensembles page.
The Middle School Choirs meet during the school day (every other day) and perform on 3 concerts each school year.
6th Grade chorus continues the work done at State Street and sings unison and 2-part music. Students start using sight-singing as a warm-up and sing various styles of music.
7/8 Chorus continues where the 6th grade left off, but adds music that is in 3-part arrangements often moving to 4-part music by the end of the year, when possible. They also sing in a variety of musical genres.
Middle School students can audition for All-County.
The MS Choral Program also offers several extra-curricular opportunities:
Select Choir (SAB group, auditioned)
Bell Choir (auditioned group)
Drama Club
The High School Mixed Chorus meets during the school day and performs on all 3 concerts at the High School. Mixed Chorus sings repertoire from a variety of genres including classical, musical theatre, pop/jazz, and multicultural. Chorus students are placed into rotating lesson groups based on grade level, voice type, and/or ensemble. Lessons focus on basic musicianship and sight-reading skills as well as vocal technique and repertoire reinforcement. Students have the opportunity to participate in NYSSMA Solo Festival, audition for All-County, and sing in Area All-State/Conference All-State if selected.
The HS Choral Program also offers several extra-curricular opportunities:
Bell Choir
VoiceBox (mixed voice a cappella)
Madrigal Choir (SATB select group, auditioned)
Women's Chamber Choir (SA select group, auditioned)
The Madrigal Choir and Women's Chamber Choir have performed at The Lodge, The Everson Museum, and at Veteran's Day and Memorial Day ceremonies in the park. Students wishing to take on leadership roles can be considered for student-director positions for Bell Choir and VoiceBox A Cappella.
