All students must complete 1.5 credit of PE and 0.5 credit of Health, with 2 total credits needed. The maximum weightlifting course credit that may count toward the required physical education credits for graduation is 0.5 credits.

This course focuses on the fundamental components and principles of fitness. The course examines safety guidelines, proper technique, and exercise principles such as the FITT. Students will assess their current level of fitness in relation to the five components of physical fitness: flexibility, cardiovascular health, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and body composition. Students will also learn strategies to help them begin, design, and maintain an exercise program to keep them fit for life. Open to all grades if a student has not previously completed the course.

This course is designed to develop intelligent, self-directed behaviors that lead to good personal health through the study of physical, mental, social, spiritual and emotional aspects of health. Students will learn healthy attitudes and behaviors, esteem, communication, preventative measures in disease, body systems, substance abuse, exercise and nutrition.

This physical education course is designed to introduce the students to the four fundamental concepts of physical fitness: muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. Students will be introduced to lifetime sports and the rules associated with those sports through blended learning. Students will benefit from lifetime fitness by learning about the importance of leading a fit life both in person and with an online component.

The emphasis is on increased muscular strength and endurance, preparing the athlete for competition. This program is geared toward the student that would like to learn the basics about weight training and developing skills related to muscular endurance and muscular strength. This course is available to all grades and can be taken more than once.

This is a beginning course for students who want to be involved in a strength-training program. Students will be taught the fundamentals of how to lift weights, as well as proper techniques that are used in each lift with a focus on our core lifts. This class is a prerequisite for any student wanting to advance into Weight Training III/IV.

This course is a continuation of the strength programs offered in previous courses. The emphasis will be on increased muscular strength and endurance with an additional focus on powerlifting while preparing the athlete for athletic competition. Students who have at least one year of experience in the entry-level program or have departmental approval will be welcome in this class. This program is geared toward the student-athlete who wants to improve strength through a higher level of intensity.

The emphasis will be on increased muscular strength and endurance with an additional focus on powerlifting for serious competitors. This program is geared toward the serious student-athlete who wants to improve strength through a higher level of intensity.

This course will be designed to coach students who aspire to become athletes at the next level. Sprinting mechanics, mobility, recovery methods, and nutrition will be taught. Advanced athletics will be a complement to weights. Sprinting and different movement drills have a greater effect on atheltic performance than simply strength alone, so students will be given the opportunity to master the fudnamentals of athleticism.

Class recommended for any level student; beginners welcome! In this class, postures will be explored and are practiced to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated. You can expect an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement. Full-body relaxation and balance are the goals, as we make a full circuit of the body’s range of motion with standing postures, twists, backbends, forward folds, and hip openers. Students will also learn the ability to sequence a modified flow with proper technique. Students may take this course for one semester each year.

A study of the principles involved in successful sports/event planning and management including, facility operations, risk management, stakeholder management, planning and designing the environment, sponsorships, promotion, and atmospherics. Students will complete activities and projects associated with various athletic events and functions in addition to course content and will have course requirements outside of class time.
Sports Participation Credit Statement
In accordance with the Utah State Secondary School Core Curriculum, students may be granted a one-time maximum 0.5 PE credit for “Individualized Lifetime Activity” in lieu of a semester of PE. Students who participate in 2 full seasons of one or more sports may receive a 0.5 credit. Approval must be obtained from the Athletic Director, and student must request the credit through the Athletic Director to receive it.
