Procedures/Processes/Rules/Etc
ALL LATE WORK MUST BE SUBMITTED IN HARD COPY TO ME, NO LATE WORK CAN BE SUBMITTED TO THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM FOLDER
All assignments can be written by hand or you can use Google Drive Apps and submit to Google classroom folder.
Tests/Quizzes - achieve less than 79%, you must retake (within 1 week of the day its returned). On all retakes the maximum you can achieve is a 79% (even if you get a 100% the 2nd time, the maximum your grade can increase is up to a 79%). With this policy every student can be assured they will always have a 79% or higher on any test/quiz.
Test/Quizzes - achieve higher than 79% you are not obligated to retake the test, BUT YOU CAN, and achieve a higher score (up to 100%).
Late Homework - you have one day to submit late homework for 75% of the credit, after 1 day it goes down to 50% credit. The last opportunity to submit late homework is at the 6 week grading period. Any assignments related to the previous 6 weeks will no longer be accepted.
Assignment Sheet - each student will maintain an assignment sheet on Google Sheets, it will list all the assignments in class and the scores achieved on each assignment. Students will keep this sheet to make sure their grade is accurately recorded by me, and to know what they have (grade wise) in my class at all times.
Formula for displaying letter grade:
=index({0,"F";60,"D-";64,"D";67,"D+";70,"C-";74,"C";77,"C+";80,"B-";84,"B";87,"B+";90,"A-";94,"A";97,"A+"},match(G2*100,index({0,"F";60,"D-";64,"D";67,"D+";70,"C-";74,"C";77,"C+";80,"B-";84,"B";87,"B";90,"A-";94,"A";97,"A+"},0,1)),2)
Independent Study Requirements -
What is required from students that are on an Independent Study (green form for 5-15 days).
All Independent Studies require Homework for every period the student has, including PE.
If a test is scheduled, the students need something for that also, study guide or a copy of the graded test.
Something has to be turned in that shows all finished assignments.
Then after the student returns, they give all assignments back to the teacher, who corrects it and returns it to the student along with the % grade on the green IS form. That all needs to come back to the Attendance 10 days after they return from the IS absence.
Current Events MyMaps Tutorial
Each Monday we will spend the period on Current Events. Students are required to look-up and review 2 stories per week (1st semester, 1 story per week 2nd semester). Students will need to fill-in the Current Event Form for each story and place the location of that story on the Google MyMaps page (see tutorial below).
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Course Overview
Ethnic Studies 1,2 is a year long class that covers a few different areas...
#1 Digital Literacy - we use Google Drive and Google Classroom for most all of our assignments. You will become familiar with Google Drive apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and will be using these various apps within the assigned work. There are two goals for this - the first is simply to make sure all students can access and use the apps that SJUSD provides for each student through their student SJUSD acct. The 2nd reason is to develop skills on how these apps can be utilized in various ways to demonstrate knowledge/creativity/competency in various subject areas. As part of the Digital Literacy component we will be doing various projects incorporating the assortment of Google Apps into the work.
#2 World Cultures - we select units that address many of the historical events that contribute to world cultural uniqueness. 10-12 grade History classes focus on Western Civilization development (10th) US History (11th) and American Gov't/Econ (12th). Your freshmen year will provide a chance to look at items outside those 3 areas. We will look at features of Culture, and events that led to cultural interaction and diffusion.
#3 Geography - world geographical awareness is vital as we become more globalized over the next 10 years. Knowing where things are in the world adds to understanding of that places cultural characteristics. The food, animals, cultural traditions, customs and ceremonies are many times tied to a places geographical location.
Our goal is for you to gain a better understanding of the world around you. People are very different in different parts of the world. They have different belief systems about social class, basic rights, roles of men and women in society, different value systems, different legal systems, and different governmental structures. When the year is over you should have a better understanding of cultures around the world, what events influenced their specific development, and how their entire social system is different to ours.
