While motherhood should be a memorable and safe time in the lives of women who undergo the pregnancy process, this may not always be the case when their physical and/or mental health is being impacted unnecessarily. According to an analysis of Blue Cross Blue Shield health data, the following were key findings that the premier health insurance organization discovered:
A greater number of women are entering pregnancy with pre-existing conditions.
The number of women experiencing both pregnancy and childbirth complications increased 31.5%.
Women with pregnancy complications are twice as likely to have childbirth complications.
The number of women diagnosed with postpartum depression increased by nearly 30%.
