Chapter 7 Keywords:
Difference between e-commerce and e-business. e-commerce refers to buying and selling online, while e-business encompasses all business conducted online. E-commerce can be viewed as a subset of e-business.
Forms of Electronic Business: Four different e-business models to consider are business to consumer (B2C), business to business (B2B), consumer to consumer (C2C) and consumer to business (C2C).
Disintermediation: reduction in the use of intermediaries between producers and consumers. Notable examples of disintermediation include Dell and Apple, which sell many of their systems direct to the consumer—thus bypassing traditional retail chains, having succeeded in creating brands well recognized by customers, profitable and with continuous growth.
Dynamic Pricing goal is to set individual prices for each consumer to capture the maximum price each is willing to pay. As opposed to the perfect competition price, where everyone pays the same price, and some customers gain because they were willing to pay more.
Near Field Communications (NFC): technology lets smartphones and other enabled devices communicate with other devices containing a NFC tag. Whether swiping your smartphone at the checkout lane in the grocery store, waving it over a display at a local museum, or bumping phones with a friend to share the latest games, near field technology lets you pay, play, and learn easily. Near Field Communication utilizes electromagnetic radio fields while technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi focus on radio transmissions instead.
Digital Cash: Money in your bank account is converted to a digital code. This digital code may then be stored on a microchip, a pocket card (like a smart card), or on the hard drive of your computer. Paypal is not "digital cash", because it doesn't attempt to provide properties similar to cash (anonymity, off-line usage). Bitcoin is digital cash although there are few places where it can be used offline.
Bitcoin: Each “coin” is a mathematical solution to a complex problem that contains about 21 million solutions. A bitcoin is a private key (asymmetrical encryption). Half of a digital signature. The other half is a public key. Each transaction is recorded cryptographically in a block chain to prevent people from double-spending a coin (or fraction). “Miners” buy custom-built high-speed processors to solve the math equations to get more coins.
Web Advertising: Click-through Rate, Cost per Thousand Impressions (CPM), Cost per Click (CPC). Google Ads (previously adwords, read all of the linked explanations on this page). Google Ads Bidding: Most people starting out in AdWords use cost-per-click (CPC) bidding to pay for each click on their ads. With this option, you set a maximum cost-per-click bid (max. CPC bid) that's the highest amount that you're willing to pay for a click on your ad. Google Keywords.
Google Trends: Data and visualization of Google search requests.
Web Advertising Placement, services include: Rotate ads, Track hits, Collect money
Distribute payments, Track customers.
Web Hosting Options (see slide 40)
Application Service Provider: A business providing computer-based services to customers over a network; such as access to a particular software application (such as customer relationship management) using a standard protocol (such as HTTP).
